Hi,
in my local store I tested Crucial m4 256GB mSATA SSD drive in my laptop Dell Latitude E6230. I hoped that it will work but it did nothing. I tested the SSD in both free Mini PCI Express slots. There are three slots in this laptop and the smallest one cannot be used SSD because there is not space for the SSD and the slot is occupied by wireless LAN so I did not tested this slot and I tested the rest two slots.
The problem is that absolutely did not happened. When I boot into OS (Windows 8) no new hardware was displayed. After boot I always looked into Device Manager and no new hardware (even HW without drives) did not show up. I also tested to find new hardware and I also tested if there are new drives in the Disk Management and I tried scan for new drives in the Disk Management. Of course I have newest BIOS version A09.
Please is it possible that the drive did not work because I just inserted it (for testing purposes) and I did not fit it by screws? So maybe the drive was not horizontally with the motherboard The other possibility that the laptop do not support mSATA drives. Or maybe another SSD will work. I do not know I would like to have two hard drives in the laptop. One mSATA and one 2.5.
Thank you.

Hi,
thank you for the information. Using Google (site:forum.notebookreview.com) I did not find posts that you linked but on another sites I found for example this:

Hey, I have the new E6230 and have bought a OCZ Nocti mSATA drive. After a lot of investigation and communication with my Key Account Manager at Dell they admitted that Yes, the 6230 DO support mSATA - however it is not official until August 2012. I just dropped on the A02 bios and still cannot get any life in the mSATA. I wonder if they have locked the machine to certain, dell-approved, drives or if we need to wait for an A03 BIOS before we can start using them. /sadface
Anyone got any experiences or comments?
So I was not absolutely sure if the laptop support mSATA or not.
Thank you...
