Right now I am using an Asus UL30a-x5. it runs great but im using it for recording/producing cds and ocassional gaming. to give it more power what should i upgrade on it? and whatever i upgrade, what things would be the best choices (im pretty much willing to spend whatever will get me the best stuff for it so i dont have a price range)
any help would be great. thanks

give us the specs of the machine:
cpu/speed?
ram?
hard disk space? -
You should buy an SU9600 processor, 160GB Intel X25 SSD, and 2 x 4GB of DDR2 800 Ram.
-
Ultimately a RAM and HD upgrade is the most economical way to gain performance. A CPU upgrade is rarely necessary, and likely isn't possible since most low-voltage CPUs are soldered directly to the motherboard.
Also, upgrade to a 64-bit OS for certain performance and security improvements, as well as the ability to use all 4GB of RAM. -
its got 4gb ram, 500gb harddrive, an intel core 2 duo prossesor (i think 1.3ghz), and im running windows 7 (64 bit) on it already
-
Well then it looks like you're all set in terms of hardware. All you can do is keep the inside of the laptop free of dust/debris and ensure that Windows is fully defragged, up-to-date, and not running unnecessary software.
-
well, since im running a lot of recording programs, im gonna need a lot of processing power (a lot of the stuff i use recommends having a processing speed of 1.7ghz+) so eventually im gonna want to upgrade that and what would be some good suggestions? Again, I dont have a set price range because im willing to spend however much it will cost me to get this thing at peak proformance

You may want to look at these two posts below.
Basically, partition the HD for sustained performance over time.

Use PerfectDisk to keep the performance as good as Day 1 install:

Those two 'tweaks' above might negate the need for a faster CPU, at least for a while (with your current programs). -
I thought that the CPU in CULV notebooks and atoms is soldered to the motherboard so it can't be upgraded? You can certainly upgrade your hard drive to something else or an SSD and 4GB ram will help...

and does asus have a built in overclocking suite? U can also use that.. last option is to use SetFSB...
