hey there, i bought a 42" plasma-tv today and found out that my old hdmi cable (5meters) isnt long enough anymore. i would need a 10 meter one (as there isnt anything between 5 and 10 meeters). But i heard that having long hdmi cables will cause quality loss. Is that true? i watch alot of full-hd movies via the hdmi cable (from laptop to plasma tv).

    thanks

Just because it's digital doesn't mean it's all or nothing. You can get noise and snow in your audio and video feeds if you use a very poor quality cable or one that is too long.

Hmmm , I watched a video made bye the company that certifies the hdmi cables and he said, that hdmi cables work or they dont, unless you have thousands of pounds of testing equipment to check the cable for signal loss.

I disagree. Of course you'll get signal degradation, but in place of snow or static, the most you're going to see is a pixelated image, or no image at all.

You should buy a Monster cable. I hear they have magical elves that create super sensitive electromageneticnodeflux systems around the cable, thereby preventing signial degradation over the lengths that you require.

Haha...I've got some 15' or 20' DVI cables that do not give me issue. They were a bit more expensive and the physical cable is a bit thicker than average, but I'm good to go.

Best I can say is to get a 10' HDMI cable and try it yourself. Do not go cheap though, but do not get Monster-over-expensive coat hangers either.

5m is limit for me of course without booster ...
above 5m might encounter disorder of picture ...
depend of quality cable as well ...

You can order lengths between 5 and 10 meters online.

just to make something clear: 10' are not 10meteres. 10' are 3 meters

so i need a 32 feet or 33 feet hdmi cable.

Hmm so there are some saying i wont get problems and others say the picture will get pixeld and "snow/raining". Not sure at all now :D

I havent checked what these booster cost but a classmate said they would be rly expensive.

what i found is a 1.3b cable for around 15$ with 10 meteres (so 32feet). goldened contacts and blabla.. guess i will give it a try

Why don't you just buy a 6 meter cable? They are easily found online and you don't have to worry about signal degradation.

Because his source and display are probably 7 meters apart.

I use 10m cables without issue, but I also make sure they're not bundled with any other cables, not near the router or cordless phones, and always shielded.

He is saying he needs something just a little greater than 5 meters with his new TV, and the next size up is 10 meters, but that isn't true. It took me took seconds on google to find any size in between.

My snarkiness made me think 6m and 10m are the only standard lengths (don't know why, probably b/c most of the other non-HDMI cables I use are 6ft standard). Looked on monoprice, you're definitely right.

i would need around 8 meters.. but since i´m not sure how i gonne place the tv i will buy 10 meters to be on the safe side :)

i only thought about buying smth between 5 and 10 meters because 10 meters maybe cause a big quality loss or smth smiliar. and so i thought 8 meters should be better (if i dont need the other 2 meters). how ever:

this hdmi extenders.. you connect them with ethernet cables? a 10meter hdmi cable would be 50% cheaper than these extenders
