Why is it that on some laptops 1SODIMM costs less than 2SODIMMS? I'd think that 1 larger stick would cost more than 2 smaller sticks always?
..that is..unless 1 SODIMM doesn't mean 1 stick, etc...if it doesn't...you can tell I'm a noob ;-P

If you have two 512 sticks that cost $55 a piece, and the 1 gig stick is $80, the 1 sodimm is going to be cheaper. From my understanding, the 2 512 sticks will outperform the 1 gig stick though because of the hyperthreading technology or whatever that makes having identical memory in couples a benefit.

Ok. Another question: Can someone explain to me all those pins and what they mean? 200pin, 240pin, etc. And also what the PC#### means? I assume higher number=higher clock speed?
-
The pin numbers are the pin out or rather the connectors which connect to the memory slot on the motherboard. The slots are of a few different configurations of pins. Notebook memory is usually 200pin(both DDR & DDR2). Desktops are usually either 184pin(DDR) or 240pin(DDR2). There are a few others but they arent that widely used.
PC 2700/3200 mean the max bandwidth provided by that memory(measured in mb/s). Yes, higher the clock speed higher the bandwidth. -
Ah! Thanks
memory sticks
