Hi,
I was wondering what specification do we need to know to upgrade a notebook for dual channel to work...I know it has to be like 2x 512mb ram or something...but does it matter if different brand name like one is a corsair and kingston?
I have a fujitsu N3410, it comes with 512mb ram DDR2 PC24200, I am planning to get another with the same specification but with different brand...will dual channel work for the upgrade?

They should be the same brand and specs. I have heard of people getting lucky, but you should buy matched pairs. The thing with the different brands is the latency, etc that could be an issue.

ahh I see thx...thats what I was afraid of, before upgrading it

so if I get the right latency is it possible dual channel to work?

okay this is bizarre but i have one stick of 256 533mhz and one stick on 1024 at 667mhz, according to cpuID they are running in dual channel though their running at 533 cause my laptop dosent support 667 at the moment.

I belive as long as the timings are the same, dual channel should work. There are intricacies with all brands, so they may not cooperate. However, sometimes one brand can have more than one chip manufacturer. I know it sounds weird, but you can get a Corsair chip with one module manuf. and another of the same chip with a different module manuf.
Good luck. Memory timings can be checked many ways. I recommend a free program like (I believe) Aida32. I use Everest Home edition, but that was discontinued. Maybe you can find it out there, but I'm not sure.
