    Hello,
with my notebook I received a free trial of microsoft office and now I want to get the real thing. heres my question though.

micosoft office is telling me I need the CD key to install. does this mean I need to buy JUST the CD key or do I need to buy office as a whole package to get the CD key?

I've been looking for the key but I'm having a hard time finding one to purchase so I'm guessing I have to buy the entire package?

    any ideas?

    yes I am a noob

Yes, I do believe that you will have to purchase the whole boxed package, I don't think you can purchase just the CD Key itself, but someone can correct me if i'm wrong.

All you need to get it to work is a valid CD-KEY, but the most common way of acquiring a CD-KEY is by buying the hard copy of the software.

You may want to try OpenOffice if you're on a budget (not sure if you are, or not, but everyone likes to save money?). It's free basically.

Unless you can get a student version or a cheap bundled option with a new computer, I'd go for the very apt OpenOffice too. In fact, I use OpenOffice and am a student, but then again, I don't use word processors and spreadsheets often and when I do, I don't too anything complex, in fact, Google's office apps suffice.

Anyway, you can get by with just getting a CD key, just make sure you are getting it from a reputable source.

Yes, try OpenOffice first. That's what I use.

You'll have to buy a new Office CD to get a valid CD-key. You can,t get a cd-key alone since it's most of a new Office Cd's price. Last time I bought an Office CD the bill said: Office 2003 CD - 10$, Office License - 85$. Or you can just get a cracked copy if someone you know have one.

I think now Microsoft offers Office 2007 Ultimate for 60$ (an offer made for students). It's better paying 60$ for MO compared to OO.

It's awesome because it's free. I think Sun or IBM released something for free recently (an office suite).
