my bdrom reads bd disks just fine but has terrible difficulty reading and writing dvd/cd's.
afaik a bd odd has two lasers. one to read the bd and one which is backward compatible with dvd's and cd's.
ive tried using cd/dvd head cleaners and they dont seem to work.
i already had the bd replaced under warranty so this is my second bdrom drive. i cant have it replaced anymore as i am out of warranty.
i recently moved to a an external enclosure to see if that would solve the problem, indicating an internal sata connection issue. sadly, it still has the same problem with reading/writing dvd/cd's.
any ideas as to what else i could do short of getting a new drive?

I was checking google to see if you could adjust head on your bdrom and I came across something cool (is it fake??):
Modify Your CD-ROM to Watch DVD Movies - Tips & Tweaks
Anyway, this could relate to your problem, is there a screw you can see that looks like it would adjust anything?
EDIT: might even be a laser adjustment screw, some things show up on google for that.
