Helllo,
I am looking to upgrade the memory on my ms 1029 from a single 512 stick of DDR 400 (PC 3200) with a 1 GB or 512MB stick. I just had a few questions.
1. I have heard that by having two sticks of mem. in this machine the computer slows down the mem speed to 333/266. Is this true? I have v2.3 of the Bios, and am not sure it was fixed here. I am not sure what memory configurations this applies to if any. any info would be helpful.
2. I am looking to flash the Bios to v2.7 (most recent right?) but am not 100% sure how to go about this. I have never done this to a Bios. I have the rar file from MSI site, but am don't know what to do next. I don't have a floppy on this machine, but I do have nero 7 and some blank disks.
3. I am not sure what type of memory to buy. I think it is 200 pin SODIMM PC 3200, but am not sure. And how much does brand name matter in laptop mem? I have always been a kingston guy, but i hear that the corsairs are nice.
4. Currently, I am living in Japan. I won't be back to the states for some time, but I have people willing to send me the mem. from there. I was wondering if anyone knew a place in Tokyo that would sell the memory? Otherwise, does anyone know about any online deals on memory?
In advance Thank you so much!

Having 2 stics of ram will not cause it to be downclocked. The reason ddr400 ram runs at 333 speeds is because the mobo is designed for 333 ram, but the turion can handle up to 400 ram.
But u can make it run at 400mhz instead of 333 (if u get the pc3200 ram) by using a64tweaker. -
does it matter what version of the bios i have? or that i am running a 32 bit version of winxp pro?

No, none of that matter for ur case.
