Hey everybody. I have a WD My Book Premium edition and unfortunately the 500gb hdd has failed, but the enclosure seems to be working still. So I was wonder can I replace the hdd in it with a Seagate or WD 500+ gb? Thanks.

yes you can. Your my book can use any SATA 3.5" drive you like.
Unfortunately when you put a new harddrive into the adaptor, the adaptor still reads it as a mybook when you plug it into the computer. You also loose the WD software when installing a new drive.
I used the SATA to USB adaptor from my mybook, and used a 1TB Hitachi Ultrastar in it. I prefer hitachi drives, so I used one in my external, with the stock wd harddrive to usb adaptor

awesome! thanks :) the only thing i was worried about was different brand hdds and more than 500gb cuz the external had a motherboard in it so i was afraid that wd locked it down to certain hdds.
