I just ordered a dell 1720, and I was wondering how it would perform compared to my desktop. the laptop has the core 2 duo t7300, 2 gigs of ram, and the 8600m gt. my desktop has an athlon 64 3800+, geforce 7900 gt, and 1 gig of ram.

yes... I have all of the most recent titles; the ones I don't have I have demos for. I allready own the desktop... and the laptop is on it's way. the reason I wonder is that I'm leaving for college in the fall, and my desktop is the one the entire family uses; plus a laptop makes more sense for college. I was wondering if I'll see a decline or an increase in my games FPS?

For games your desktop wins but going forward with games produced for DX10 then your notebook does.

I hope so, because this laptop is going to have to last me a couple of years. any idea on whether or not the 1720 is MXM? I'm pretty sure it's video card can be upgraded, but I wonder if that is a send back to the factory deal?

Don't know if it's MXM but if dell offers an 87/8800 option I'm sure it would be designed to fit into current 1720 mobo but I wouldn't depend on that.
