Has anyone upgraded to an SSD and if so which one? I build PC's and but never tinker with my laptops hardware. It shouldn't be too hard to figure but i was told i need to get a specific tray depending on the SSD.
If anyone has done this upgrade please list the parts required for ssd conversion.
Thanks

Also i can't seem to find any MB specs but is this laptop capable of SATAIII?

i know by processor specs it is stata 3 capable but doesn't mean much if the mb is not. would be nice if they posted more specs. This is why i avoid laptops.

If the above link accurately describes your current IB based system, then you shouldn't have anything to worry about.
Get any 2.5" SSD and it should be an easy swap with the existing HDD. Even if ASUS decided in their infinite wisdom to limit the SATA Port 0 to SATA2 speeds; a good SSD should be able to handle that glitch too with no problems other than posting lower benchmarks (and being a little bit slower in real world usage too, of course).
The only reason to get a specific 'tray' for the SSD would be if you were trying to put in an mSATA version or a 7mm (vs. the standard 9.5mm) options out there. Even then: I would be surprised if you could find a drive cage that would convert your drive bay for other non-standard sizes: simply put in a little bit of folded paper or a few carefully placed pieces of a rubber band (just enough to stop the drive from wiggling loose of it's connections) and you're done.
Hope this helps?
Good luck. -
Thanks that helps a lot, at least i won't be wasting money on a sata3 now and i already have a sata2 so that works. I'm a little surprised in this day and age they still make sata2.
With regards to the bay thanks it sounds like it should be a drop in change.
appreciate the info. -

For others, then I have purchased this:
New SATA 2nd Hard Drive SSD Caddy for Asus N56VZ N56VZ DS71 N56VZ ES71 | eBay
You can find those caddies on Ebay and other sites.
I have not received it yet, so I dont know if it works - but I asume it does, as its made for that specific model.
n56vz-xs71 with SSD upgrade anyone?
