    What sort of performance does the nVIDIA NVS 130M give compared with the 8XXX range, what is its nearest equivalent?

    8600
    8600GS
    8600GT

    Actually it's weaker than that. The 140m is equivalent to the 8400GS, thus the 130m is in the range of the 8300 if it existed.

    Not quite true. The NVS 135M and 140M both have 16 shader units, while the NVS 130M has 8 (like the 8400M G). In fact, the 130M is the 8400M G in every way. The 135M is, predictably, identical to the 8400M GS. The 140M uses the core and GDDR3 memory of the 8400M GT, but unfortunately has a 64-bit memory bus, yielding performance somewhere between the GS and the GT, but definitely erring towards the GT side (they even match in lower resolutions, without AA).

    Still, the 130M is pretty weak. Fine for last-gen gaming at acceptable settings, but that's about it.
