Hi, after several test I find that the secondary hard disk caddy run only at ATA2 (DMA33) instead ATA5 (UDMA100). I have tested the orignal caddy from HP and both ATA and SATA compatible oem adapter.
All disk (7K100 ATA, Momentus 5400.3, Samsung HM160HC, 5K160 SATA and Momentus 7200.3 SATA) run at 29/30Mb second due bus limitation.
SisoftSanda and HD Tune reports the controller is ATA5 capable but hd 2 is set to DMA2.
On the oem IDA caddy, according to UltraATA standard I have connected the pin 34 to ground to force the detections of Ultra ATA cabable cable.
    No success.

    Any Help?

Hello, I am interested in the results of your findings.
Do you think it is the Intel chipset limitations?

    Also, just another question:

What hard drive are you running as the primary in your nw8000 ?

    Thx.

Hi, no not chip set limitations. My nw8000 no runs a Hitachi 7K100 and an other nc8000 runs with Samsung HM160HC. In tha main hd bay (as primary disk) they perform well (50-60Mb/sec). In this days I am modding an other nc8000 to fit a sata converter in main hard disk bay.

Hi Nando, thanks 4 help. Hdparm work! I find the problem. My SATA to PATA caddy (ebay, LQE china brend) have problem to manage some SATA disk. With Hitachi 5K250-250Gb SATA I can't work above UDMA2. If I set UDMA 3, 4 or 5 the speed drop at 1,5Mb/sec! With Momentus 7200.3 (SATA I jumper in) the disk is not recognized. With Toshiba MK8034GSX (80Gb 5400 rpm SATA 1) run OK. Idem with Seagate Momentus 5400.3. But my taget is to use faster disk at 7200rpm and high density plate. Hitachi no have the jumper to limit at SATA I so I go for Momentus 7200.4 or WD Scorpio Black. What about Samsung?
