Notebooks usually use 2.5" hard drives. Go to Newegg and choose a hard drive.

Things you have to remember: 4200 rpm hard drives are usually slow, 5400 rpm drives are fine and give a high capacity (up to 160 GB), 7200 rpm hard drives give excellent performance in games and intensive applications but are expensive and their capacity is less then a 5400 rpm (100 GB).

Always buy a hard drive that has 8 MB cache. Hitachi performs great when it comes to performance, but is loud and hotter then other manifacturers. Seagate performs good, stays cool and silent. Considered as best hard drives. Samsung and Fujitsu are good too but not as good as Seagate.

    Good luck!

    Charlie :)

You can google "PC Wizard", a system diagnostic program that tells you hardware specifications.

Also make sure to order one with the right interface (SATA or IDE). Should be in your system specs, if it's over a yeas or so old it's most likely an IDE, under a year and it's probably SATA.

Hello, according to my research, the v2710us have ATA/IDE HD.

So the second HD you have choose will not work.

You can just look up the model number of your current HDD(from the device manager) on your fav. search engine and usually HD manufacturers list the specs along with the interface. From looking at the spec on HP.com for the V2710us it should have a ATA6 drive. The Seagate drive you listed first should work with your system without any issues...

It will help to a certain extent but dont expect miracles. Most games are limited by the graphics card. You will notice an improvement in the overall system response though.

well there are alot of stores you can buy hard drive but in general newegg got a decent price, maybe not the cheapest but good deals most of the time. Only best stores I can find for when I buy notebook HDs and with a fast shipping also.

if your ram is 512mb I think it will be fine. If you are playing games It's better to have at least 1gb in my opinion.

As long as the drive has the correct interface (IDE or SATA) it should work ok. Looks like your laptop has IDE/ATA, not SATA. If you're gaming a 7200rpm drive will help performance but a 5400rpm drive will be ok. I'd say try to steer clear of 4200rpm drives as they are a bit slow by today's standards and will hold your laptop up.

My current HD is 4200rpm so thats why I am thinking about upgrading. I have 512Mb of RAM, but 128MB is subtracted from it beause of the video card
