hey guys, i'm going to be getting this laptop, and i'm wondering about a few things.
I want to play games on higher settings(like orange box, unreal 3, crysis on medium..lol) and i needed to know how big of a diff i would see with a 250 GB hard drive at 5400 rpm vs a 160 GB hard drive at 7200 rpm. what would be better for gaming performance?
and also, i'll be using it for college too, and was wondering... is a integrated 56k modem even needed? do they still use them at places?
Oh, and what do ppl thing about an hdtv integrated tuner? like able to watch tv on the laptop. does anyone recommend that, or have any experience with it? thanks

The 7200RPM hard drive will offer significantly increased performance in a variety of areas, but little in gaming save for load times.
A modem would probably go unused on a college campus as most campuses have total wifi coverage. A modem might be useful if you travel to extremely rural areas... which is unlikely to be the case. You'll also need a dial-up provider if you intend to use it ever. I'd say the only reason I'd ever use a modem is to hear a favorite nostalgic sound -
The speed of the harddrive does not effect game play, it only effects how fast the games load.
Either drive will be fine for gaming, however go with the larger capacity drive, cause most college students need more than 160gb of space.
56k modems are not used anymore unless you have dialup internet at home.
Internet is now done through wireless and ethernet.
Integrated Tv tuners are usually junk, because they need to have small power restraints and size restrictions.

alright thanks guys for the quick replys. i'm not gonna be getting the 56k modem or the tv tuner thing, and for the hard drive, they removed the option for a 160 gb 7200 rpm hard drive anyway
which was up like 5 days ago. oh well, made my choice a lot easier haha

what, you have the option of having a modem?
That doesnt make sense. The modem is integrated into the motherboard, and is usually not removable. I guess Hp is using old school modem's which are removable, but why they are doing that makes no sense.
You will still have a modem port on the system, since the dv5t is sold with a modem port. They wouldnt make two different motherboards and shells just to have or not have the modem
I guess they are just removing the actual modem card.

K-TRON, actually, for the modem part, they just plug it up with a piece of silver metal.

ya, its only 10 bucks, so i think it is just a port. thats all
