Couldn't find the right forum, but this one seems to be the best fit. Need help from the experts here.

Just got a AT&T 3181 laptop that was given to me by a friend. No details available. I Googled it, and get nothing useful. I have no idea what shape it's in, internally, or what's in it. It looks fine physically, on the outside

First off, I'd appreciate if someone could tell me what I should have. OS, hard drive supplied, RAM, etc

The next order of business is to get it powered up. It's got a battery, probably bad, discharged for sure.

I need an ac adapter/power supply for it. Tried Evilbay, and could only find the universals. They might work. One has 12vdc, and I that could do it. I'll explain why I say could.

The tag on the bottom of the unit says 11.5vdc and 13.5vdc. I take this to be a range of dc voltages that will work, and not the need for two separate dc voltages of 11.5 and 13.5. What I take to be the power inlet is a square receptacle with two small male pins.

Any thoughts on where I can find an a/c pwr adapter with the right plug (assuming that's what the square receptacle is for)?

The information coming up for the ATT Safari 3181 laptop says it is basically an ancient laptop, guessing maybe from the 92-94 era. 486dx2 50mhz processor, 20 megs of ram max, probably HD in the 200-300MB range.

Any reason to get the machine up and running specifically? Just to have fun, or were you planning on using this for something else?

Also, with those voltages, some older machines had multiple voltage inputs. The outer casing of the power receptacle is probably the grounded surface, with the 2 inner pins the positive points.

The info you gave me points to it being a throwaway. I just wanted to find out something about it. If it was any good, capability-wise, I might try to get it going.

I noticed it doesn't seem to have any Ethernet or dialup ports, so probably no internet capability.

Shame. Seems like an otherwise nice unit.
