Okay so after buying hitachi 5k500 500GB HDD I had to use its warranty service because of weird sounds.
Now I can get the same new HDD back OR I can choose (and pay the cost difference) to get other new drive.

Budget is somewhere <100€. I wanted something with good power management but then I've realised I run it like 80% of the time at home (as desktop replacement), so maybe I would prefer more speed as I think HDD is the speed and responsiveness limiting factor right now. Should I go for 7200RPM? Which brand? I am scared of seagate because few of my 3.5" drives failed, also now as the Hitachi failed I think I will have to go with WD.

Sh*t I am always so confused when choosing HDD  :(

edit> the 7k500 is the same price as 5k500+6€ thats very nice deal. I'm waiting for price info for 5000bekt from the shop where I have to buy it...

:D classic forums... buy hitachi. buy wd. buy ______.
is it really faster? the benchmarks are kinda similar with 7k500. also I think BEKT will be more expensive...

"fast" for me is faster app loading time, more responsive. I also play games a lot, nothing so HDD demanding (warcraft, starcraft) but it is nice not to wait for ages to load it...

ur choice really.. IMO , i would go over reliability of 7K500 over the year its been out compared to recently out hard drive... the difference is really small... if u want , just get the cheaper one.

    Thanks for advices - I've ordered 5000bekt.

my hitachi went for warranty service so I was very dissapointed because everybody told how reliable those drives should be. that was a "minus" for hitachi :(

And yes the differences are so small it is very puzzling to decide! :D
