Ive alway had lcds at work and at home, but never paid close attention to the noises they make, but I noticed that with my new 205BW (20" widescreen lcd) it makes a humming noise between 60 and 84 on the brightness scale. Anything over and below that there is no audible noise.
Its not loud, but noticeable...not a buzz, but an electrical hum.
Return? Normal? Bad?

I'd guess the monitor's power supply is... well, maybe bad is too strong a word, but not right. If the power supply starts to overheat it'll make a very annoying high-pitched buzz. That was a huge problem with Dell 24" monitors a while back. Samsungs are usually reliable so I think you just got unlucky.
I'll defer to theories from people with more monitor repair experience though.
My 215TW is silent but I keep the brightness around 25. -
the thing is, the hum is just not that loud. I do have to be right up next to it to hear it, but i noticed it because I was close to the screen when changing the settings...

Oh. Umm... then it's probably not what I was thinking of. ?

Is it like the hum you'd get from a fluorescent tube?
