    it's a pretty stupid question, i think.

saw few laptops on xoticpc with cpu upgrade up to T9900 and P9700, regardless whether it's worth it not, my question is after like 1 and half years of usage, pc equipped with p9700 broken down, something wrong with mainboard and whatever, not fixable, and no more warranty. Then go out and buy a new one with average cpu, can i take out the P9700 and replace that average one? (assume that i know how to replace it, please just assume~ )

Is it possible? OR it is depend on the new one i got? Basically means that not all laptops' cpu is replaceable?

Pretty stupid question, but just curious with the answer, hopefully someone can answer. THANKS!

Sure, as long as it's the same class of CPU and the problem wasn't with the CPU to begin with.

Also, be sure to check on the warranty doing this swap unless you don't care about that.

If you buy a machine with a T9900 or P9700, it will almost certainly be a Socket P machine with a 45-Series chipset. If your original processor happens to die, you will be able to replace it with any Socket P processor that works with a 45-Series chipset. Short answer: yes, you can replace it.

Sure, as long as the T9900 or P9700 isn't the problem, and the new laptop has a compatible chipset for the upgrade.

I am not sure how much computer repair shops charge people but replacing a CPU only takes 2 mins once you reach it.

In some laptops, you can reach the CPU by taking out 2-3 screws, in some other machines you may have to disassemble the entire machine which may take upto an hour. So the price really depends on how much work they do..
