    Hi,

I just installed 4gb RAM (2x2GB ddr2 800MHz SODIMM kinston valueselect) on my asus G1s. Im running vista 64 bit, so it detects all 4gig. The only problem is this: CPU-Z says 'Maximum Bandwith PC2-6400 (400MHZ!) My old RAM was 667MHz (though i never checked cpu-z about it)
I was told 800MHZ will just downclock to 667...

My vista performance index didnt change either (with 2gb ram I scorec 4,8 and now its still 4,8)

    What should I do?

It seems just fine for you! Don't worry.

CPU-Z doesn't show the DDR frequency, so 400Mhz * 2 = 800Mhz. It's all fine. You're probably looking under "SPD" too and that's only showing what kind of ram you're running and not what settings are running.

Look under "memory" and you'll probably see that the memory is running at 333Mhz (667Mhz DDR).

More ram won't change the performance of the PC it will only be able to handle more ram intensive tasks. Faster ram won't change the performance either.
And you shouldn't even trust Vistas WEI, it's nothing to compare with when it comes to do benchmarks.

Its DDR(2), so 400*2 = 800MHz. What you see is the DRAM frequency or the I/O Clock.

That might seem confusing, it's not the 2 on DDR2 that results in the doubled transfer rate, but it's what DDR stands for, which is Double Data Rate, that results in the doubled speed (standard DDR RAM also has double transfer speed).

Oh yeah, thats what I meant DDR (but a DDR2 module) -- dual data rate - double pumping of data, so 2*(I/O Clock).

hmmm.. does santa rosa (he has t7500) supports 800mhz memories? i know the maximum T7xxx support is 667mhz right? so his rams are running at 667?

the fsb of the T7500 is 800MhZ, but max ddr2 is 667 mhz, dont ask me why :)

DDR2 goes up to 800Mhz. It can go up to 1033Mhz if OC'd. Unless you mean that the maximum supported RAM speed of the chipset on the laptop containing the T7500 you're talking about only supports up to DDR2 667.

G1s only supports up to 667 Mhz ram...
