    Hi All,

I've got a P8600 (2.4GHz, 3MB L2 Cache, 1066MHz FSB) in my Dell Vostro 1520 and was wondering if I bought a T9900 down the road if it would make this computer a little snappier and basically extend it's life to last longer without needing replacement...Also will the Vostro support it ??

How much of a performance difference will I see ??

Why no 1333 MHZ FSB's....is that on QUAD Cores only ??

Guess it's just buyers remorse ??

I actually make use of the 35% off coupon last week and my Vostro ended up being a killer deal for $665 shipped !!

    thanks in advance....shkj

The T9900 should work without problems. We're talking about a theoretical 27% increase in performance, so it should definitely noticeable, but it depends exactly what you'll be doing.

1333mhz FSBs are not yet on mobile processors and may never be (because of Intel Quick Path Interconnect). Even quads only have 1066 at this point. Even if there was to be a 1333, you won't be able to use it.

Unless you're doing very CPU intensive tasks, the hard drive is almost always the weak link in the performance chain.

As mentioned, the T9900 will work, but unless you're doing a ton of CPU intensive work, you probably won't notice much of a difference. Like ZaZ said, in almost all other cases your HDD is most likely to the be the bottleneck.

There are no 1333MHz FSB laptop processors; mobile quads use a 1066MHz FSB just like all the other mainstream processors in the current generation. The Vostro probably won't support quads, but this is one of those things you'll never know for sure until you actually try it.
