hi, i just bought a dell 1501 w/a amd sempron 3500 processor off ebay. i want to upgrade to a 2gb memory from a 512. i believe the specs are 533mhz ddr2...im not inclined when it comes to computers at all! i keep reading of ppl ordering the wrong memory, so i dont wanna do that. if someone can point me in the right direction that would be great. im not a gamer or anything so i need something thats in the middle of the line. thanks guys

Well first off, you posted the same thing in two spots :p.

Secondly, Depending on your needs you may want to upgrade to a 2gb, If you are using VISTA you want to have 1gb memory minimum.

I'm a little bit confused on the question you are trying to ask, Did you already order the computer?

for instance if i go to tigerdirect.com it has listings for ddr2-dual channel ram and just ddr2 ram. im confused about that, and they have sub categories for pc3200, 4200, 5400, etc...

Well, since the other sticks are 533mhz, I would keep it at that. I unfortunately don't know the answer to that, will have to wait for someone else to post. I'm not sure if it would work with a 667, although...what do i know?

-On the dell website if you configure one with 2gb of ram, they use two 1gb 533mhz. So I recommend that, unless you are upgrading to only 1gb.

For one gb of ram you'll want this:
    512MB DDR2 SDRAM 533MHZ

Edited for last post read: The ddr2 #'s are the chip types. The 3200 4200 is the peak transfer rate.
