hello all i'm new to the notebook world well at least to a good one. and i just purchased a Acer Aspire AS7720-6604 from newegg. specs http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...Froogle-_-Notebooks-_-Acer+America-_-34115457
my question 1) are it comes with a T8100 can i upgrade it to a T9300 or T9500 if so where can i get one.
question 2) it has a dedicated geforce 8600m gt can i upgrade it to a 8800m gtx if so where can i buy one.if not a 8800m gtx can it be upgraded to any card.
question 3) it comes with a 320gb 5400rpm hard drive. i want to install the same size or larger 7200rpm hard drive can i do this and where can i get one at.
question 4) it comes with 3gb ddr2 667 single channel memory with 4gb max. can i install ddr2 800 dual channel memory in it. or just get ddr2 667 dual channel memory.
last question 5) i want a bluy ray/dvd burner can i put one in this computer if so which one and where can i buy it at.
For all that reply thanks for the help. Seems like people in here have alot of knowledge. Oh i'm doing this stuff because i want to play games (crysis) maxed out and i'v just wanted these things on a laptop. and hopefully this notebook can last me a few years after upgrades. Acer just tells me i can't upgrade anything so there no help.

1) you should be able to, NewEgg T9300 $319
2) no
3) yes, NewEgg
4) It only supports 667Mhz, it will work with 800Mhz but will downclock to 667Mhz. If you have 3GB's and running single channel, you have a problem. I think you are wrong. Download CPU-Z (free) and see what it says. It is not the RAM that makes it "dual channel" it is the chipset and MoBo. Here is a link, more than you ever wanted to know about dual channel.
5) Sorry I don't know, I think you can but I just don't know much about blue ray.
Welcome! To NBR.
Edit: Something to keep in mind. All the upgrades you are talking about can get rather expensive. Other than RAM (3GB's is enough) and HDD (you have a very good one) it is sometimes just better to buy a new notebook with the specs you want. Have a read about HDD's. 5400 320GB are fast as they are high density and faster than smaller 7200 HDD's. -
u may be able to upgrade laptop graphics if your laptop is mxm:
http://www.mxm-upgrade.com/Table.html
also powerpack is right a 320gb 5400 will perform equally to the largest 7200 albeit the access time.
you shud be able to upgrade the dvdrw to a bluray something like this shud work
http://cgi.ebay.com/Dell-Panasonic-...Notebooks_W0QQitemZ360048789312QQcmdZViewItem
although i offer no guarantees -
thanks alot for the quick reply
1)i found the 9300 on newegg. should i see a nice jump. 8100to 9300 should be right.
2)if not a 8800m gtx can it be upgraded to any card. got to be something better than 8600m gt dedicated card?
3)newegg 7200rpm hard drives only go to 200gb i want one thats 320 or above do you know of another place that has one.i thought the 7200rpm is better for access speeds and stuff loading and stuff.
4)thanks good info
5)not really a big deal now for me but i would like to do it in the future. I'll check out that panisonic one. -
looks like most acers are mxm but seems like most want to upgrade to the card mine came with.

Trust me you can not upgrade to 8800m GTX.
On CPU it really depends on what you do. It is a 19% increase in clocks and doubles L2. Clocks will increase proportionally, L2 depends on task many none video encoding maybe 8%. I don't think it is worth it you have a fast CPU I would just wait and save it for your next notebook. -
thanks alot for the help i guess i'm stuck with the 8600m gt.maybe another video card????? i just got this one this week so i'll have this one for awhile.

The largest 7200rpm drive which the large etailers have right now are the 200gb 7200rpm models.
Samsung just released a 250gb 7200rpm drive, and Fujitsu just released a 320gb 7200rpm notebook harddrive. They will be for sale at large e-tailers such as newegg in probably 3-4 weeks.
If you want a larger capacity drive, your only option is the Samsung 500gb 5400rpm drive. It fits in a standard 9.5mm case unlike the Hitachi 500gb notebook drive.
You can get a 500gb 5400rpm drive from zipzoomfly for about $300.

with the T9300 is this just a simple swap or would i have to do some stuff in the bios if so what/how.

think i might just take my notebook back since its not open. and get a gateway 6860fx since you can up grade to a T9300 and it comes with a 8800m gts and its like the same price.
