I have been hunting for a good hour and can't seem to find the exact answer I am looking for. So here ya go:

I am going to purchase a e1705 in the next week or 2, with the lowest available RAM installed, the 512 mb 533, so as to upgrade with newegg to x2 1gb 677 chips, and save $. Before I pull the trigger on the newegg purchase, I want to be sure that I am getting the right chips.

Which chips will fit the e1705: the PC2 5300 or the PC2 5400? Is there a difference here worth noting, or are they the same?

I am also going to upgrade the hard drive to 100 gb 7200, which is TONS cheaper than the dell hd. For that I am torn between the Hitachi and the Seagate. Anyone have any preference there?

    Ok, thanks! :)

I dont think youll really tell the differenc between the two ram sticks. Make sure the laptop can actually handle that speed.

the e1705 is capable of handling the 677 speed, as it is offered from Dell. Just need to know what the diff is bewtween the 5300 and 5400

I am also wondering about the same things, as i am looking to upgrade my E1505 the same way as you. So any response would be great.

    According to crucial.com, the E1705 takes DDR2-667 PC2-5300 or DDR2-533 PC2-4200, 1.8V, unbuffered, non-ECC, 200 pin SODIMM memories. Same for the E1505.
