I have a brand new dv6000, with t7200 2 gightz, machine duo. It makes that **** high pitched nosie. It is fixed by downloading rmclock and using the hlt command. It actually just makes it a very faint sound instead of very loud. So my question is, it just intel chips? or the mother board, or what is it. Are all laptops having this problem???

Go to HP's forum here; there's an alternative solution by disabling the USB power feature from Device Manager. I believe only Intels have this issue; chipset thing.

Disabling USB power management achieves the same thing, but in a more circuitous fashion; both ensure that the CPU remains in a C1 state and does not enter a deeper power state.

The better solution, and the one that entirely removes the noise (for some people - it fixes it for my W2P, but not my E1505) is to download RMClock and, under Advanced CPU Settings -> Platform, disable pop-up mode. The downside of the fix is that the CPU must come entirely out of power-saving states, instead of only waking to a C2 power state.

Yes, to a certain extent since the HLT command basically puts the cpu in C1 state & so the processor wont be able to enter deeper sleep states.

Still I cannot understand: is this a problem of the Core2Duo or of the chipset.
