    2. Will it add some weight?

It will add some weight if you're adding and not replacing an existing HDD.

Almost all notebooks can use an SSD + HDD - if you don't mind removing the optical drive and using a HDD/SSD caddy.

The newest platforms support mSATA SSD drive 'cards' and a normal 2.5" HDD - look at Lenovo, for example, for these type of systems.

And to add on to what tilleroftheearth said, any computer with 2 SATA HDD bays can also use an SSD + HDD, or SSDx2 or HDDx2. As far as the computer is concerned, an SSD is just another hard drive.

mSATA is for smaller drives...usualy 1.8" SSD's/HDD's (which carry a price premium).

The T420 can do it if you remove the optical drive and use a HDD caddy, the 3830GT only has 1 HDD bay and no optical (from what I remember)...so that one cannot.

In order to have 2 dedicated HDD bays you're most likely looking at a 17" sometimes 15" laptop. I don't know of any 14" with 2 bays simply because you can't make a laptop that small and have 2 full size 2.5" drives.

Sony makes some 12 and 13" laptops with 2 mSATA ports where they use 2 1.8" SSD's in RAID 0...you could remove one of the SSD's and put in a 1.8" Mechanical HDD but that would be pretty expensive.
