these cpu's seem to be everywhere now. they are the new "budget chips" according to manufactures and intel themselves (i know a few people at intel and have spoken with them in depth about these chips).
they ARE IN FACT A DUAL CORE. they perform as a dual core and actually test out as one in cpuz... the t2080 for instance shows up as a t2250.
they have their cache halved to 1mb.
here is wiki post about them:
"The Pentium Dual-Core brand refers in only 2007[1] to lower-end x86-architecture microprocessors from Intel. They were based on either the 32-bit Yonah or 64-bit Allendale processors (with very different microarchitectures) targeted at mobile or desktop computers respectively.
The first processors using the brand appeared in notebook computers in early 2007. Those processors, named Pentium T2060, T2080, and T2130[2], had the 32-bit Pentium M-derived Yonah core, and closely resembled the Core Duo T2050 processor with the exception of having 1 MB L2 cache instead of 2 MB[3]. All three of them had a 533 MHz FSB connecting CPU with memory. According to CNet Asia, "Intel developed the Pentium Dual-Core at the request of laptop manufacturers."[4]"
they do not have Virtualization.
there are 4 chipsets that can support the pentium dual core moniker..
the 940gml, 945pm, 945gms, and 945gm
99% of the notebooks shipped with the pentium dual cores use the 940gml according to many manufactures i spoke with and also intel.
the 945 chipsets can support higher than 533fsb speeds.. the 940gml CAN NOT. its locked in at 533 and will not go higher again remeber the 940gmp is what almost all pentium dual cores get shipped with.
all of the above support intel 950 integrated graphics.
cpuz does not usually distinguish which chipset you have. it just states a 945 based and usually lists all of them after that..
quoting anandtech:
"If you've got a 945GM or 945PM equipped notebook, then the Core 2 Duo should be a drop in replacement for your Core Duo processor. The upcoming Low Voltage and Ultra Low Voltage Core 2 Duo processors will also work in the 945GMS chipset, and none of them will work in the 940GML chipset."
remeber they will only take up to a 667 fsb when upgarding though. these do not support santa rosa according to intel.
hope this sheds some light on these for you.. after speaking to intel in depth about these they are in fact a great budget choice.. that is unless you can get the newer t5470 which in fact is 800mhz fsb and is in fact santa rosa...

correct sorry mistyped that

I change a thinkpad R60e CPU from celerom m420 to dual core T2050, both 533 mhz. I don't know why, but don't work. I tried a T2300e 667 off course don't work too. I think is something in the BIOS, or some white list like HP machine have. I upgrade the bios and nothing too. I read in another forum that T1350 core solo works. I will recieve the cpu in a couple of days and will try the mono core. If anyone have some tip ?

I would suspect the BIOS. Do you know if the R60e is sold with the CPU which you are trying to install?

The pentium dual core also lacks the S4 deeper sleep state and dynamic cache sizing, causing it to draw more power at idle than a core duo. I gained about 15 minutes of battery life by replacing my pentium t2060 with a core duo t2500.
For the R60e, here's the support page for it.

According to this, you can put up to a core 2 duo t7200 or a core duo t2600. You might just be needing a bios update. -
does this mean i´ll be able to upgrade my lappy to Core Duo 1.8 Ghz ?
-
Probably, but it still won't run Battlefield 2 well.
-
i´ll be Ok with BF1942 -
honestly going from 1.6 to 1.8 i would not bother..
-
no but, my lappy right now has Pentium Dual Core... and i wanna change to Core Duo (not Core 2 Duo).
-
you can only go to a 533 fsb with the chipset from the pentium dual cores from what intel tells me make sure to remember that they said the 667 and 800 will not work on those boards
-
hmmmm, some guy explained me about this and he said there is a possibility on upgrading it to Core Duo, and that C2D wasnt possible... so i gotta go to a computer place and see whats possible..... :S
-
what is your specific chipset..
-
most of the pentium dual cores use the 940gml if that is what you have you are locked to 533fsb..
-
look at this:
its in spanish tho :S -
no its 945gm
-
you are in luck the 945gm CAN support ALL OF THE 533 and 667 pentium dual core, core duo AND CORE 2 DUO.. JUST NOT THE 800MHZ ONES.. as long as you have the 945gm you are set for any of the above up to 667 fsb
-
Still won't do a thing for Battlefield 2 though.
-
Dos caja rojos Marlboro's, por favor!
-
^^^Two box red Marlboro's, please
no especially if he has a lower end gpu.. but at least he can upgrade cpu if he wants to -
just to make it better
-
Well. How my mono core processor not come yet and I can't upgrade the cpu to a T2050, I turbinate my R60e celeron M420 with 2GB Corsair Dual Channel memory DDR2 667 plus 7200 rpm HD. It's faster than the dual core, not in benchmark's but using the computer normaly.... and I'm happy now. It's enough for normal user like me. Don't need more.
okay some truth about pentium dual core
