This static read-only archive was pulled by NBR forum users between January 20 and January 31, 2022, in an effort to make sure that the valuable technical information that had been posted on the forums is preserved. For current discussions, many NBR forum users moved over to NotebookTalk.net after the shutdown.

    are you able to install windows xp home on a new notebook that comes with no operating system if you have a reintallation cd for xp from your current desktop?

    but if someone were to try, hypothetically of course, could it be easily done?

    If it's a retail version on the desktop, then you could legally remove it from the desktop and install it on the laptop.

    If it is an OEM version on the Desktop, then you may or may not be able to install it on the laptop. It probably would require a call to Microsoft for acitivation, though.

    Yes ( to put it simply )

    I wont lie I have done this to an older computer becuase It for some reason wouldnt run on the windows me os, I just wanted to see if it was good or not. however I uninstalled it and brought the computer to the dump the next day.
