    Hello,

My T430 arrives thursday and I am thinking about upgrading the 4gb ram to 8 gb. But how do you determine if you need the 8gb or not? Right now, Im just fetting it because most people upgrade to 8gb. I dont really know the reason so can someone explain it to me?

And more importantly, can you please recommend me a good 8gb ram for my T430? (a link would be greatly appreciated)

ps. I'm not a gamer but I listen to music, web surf a lot, watch movies (both stream and download)

Thank you and have a nice summer!

What is your OS version? 4GB is plenty for what you describe at the moment

The upgrade to 8GB RAM was worth it to me 3 years ago - at $400 for 8GB DDR2.

The current cost to go to 8GB on a Win7x64 system makes it a no-brainer: it doesn't matter what usage scenario you employ; 8GB RAM will make your system that much more enjoyable/responsive and allow you the luxury of being able to wait for the 'perfect upgrade' when the time finally comes to replace the current system.

The 'luxury' is directly related to how much more efficient Win7 is with 8GB RAM vs. 4GB RAM.

Sure, you can monitor your memory usage for a few hours/days to see if you really 'need' it - but by then you've already wasted more of your time than the $40 - $60 it will cost you to buy the 8GB modules and install and enjoy them.

As insurance: just get from a 100% money back (no restocking fee...) vendor an if you don't think the extra memory warrants the measly $ you spent, return it.

    Good luck.
