can anyone suggest any UK based retailers where i can get one, ive found a place in america but with shipping makes it quite pricey

Just measure up your optical drive to identify if it's 9.5mm or 12.7mm tall, then can order a "Fenvi" branded ebay caddy linked from http://forum.notebookreview.com/har...rage-using-optical-bay-caddy.html#post4936086 . The Fenvi units allow the faceplate to be swapped over and cost ~US$18-$30 delivered.

Most 12.7mm bays are pretty standardized, apart from face plates. I'm not as sure about 9.5mm bays.

thanks for that, i decided to take the drive out and measure it properly turns out its 12.7mm.
so if there fairly standard then i should be able to get a cheap one from e bay

im looking at the crucial c300 , not sure what size to get 64gb or 128gb, my aim is to put the os and most used programs on it and leave the 500gb drive for other programs

having done a little digging might not be possible for me to install an ssd as looking in the bios there appears to be no way of turning on AHCI .
anyone know if there is a work around for this ? as it will be a clean install if i do buy an ssd

That's a question you might want to try asking in the Sony subforum (about AHCI). I don't know enough about the E series to have any idea about that.
