Hello guys, was wondering. Is it possible to overclock the P9500 CPU?
If so, could someone explain how or point to a tutorial?
Mainly, only want to have it overclocked during GTAIV.
Than back to normal when finished.
Also,
Could anyone with the P9500 post their benchmarks/screenshots/settings/how playable the game is with it? (Mine will be combined with the 9800M GTS)
Thanks.

Search the forums for SetFSB and you will find a great post by Audigy and many others.

Overclocking is only for enthusiasts...Why does a semigamer want to overclock his pc components ;-) ?
-
Umm... doubt it will help much. Likely your GPU is the bottleneck big time. Overclock that instead if you haven't already.
-
On another note ... I don't think a P9500 in combination with 9800m GTS really needs to be overclocked for GTA IV.

The P9500 is a 2.53Ghz chip, that is more than powerful enough for GTAIV. If your system is playing the game poorly, than the problem is probably because of too many background processes killing your performance. To disable background processes, go to the run menu, and type in MSCONFIG. Than shut off any services and processes you are not using in the services and startup tabs. That will free up system resources allowing for the game to perform better.
Overclocking is dangerous and not recommended, especially when the bottleneck is not even your cpu.

Wow, I didnt know how cpu dependent GTA IV was. It sounds like poor software creation skills, a game should not need that much cpu power. If your really set on playing GTA IV on your laptop I advise undervolting and getting a nice laptop cooler, because your cpu is going to be running at 100% load.
I doubt the system is overclockable, becaue the manufacturer usually locks the Bios. You can try cpucool, setFSB, and clockgen, but you need to know the PLL clock multiplier before doing anything.

He he wants to OC he wants to OC...if he reads the guides, he will know the dangers and make a decision.

I know the dangers, I was asking for testing reasons, wanted to see the difference the game plays with a 200Mhz or so overclock for 20minutes than set it back. Asked for testing purposes only. To see if GTA IV is really that dependent on the CPU (if the FPS went up by quite a bit, than it is).

Unfortunately, I don't believe SetFSB allows overclocking w/ PM45 chipsets?

Alright thanks I♥RAM.
Looks like just have to wait for patch/drivers for the dang game to work right.. -
Also unfortunately, I don't believe Rockstar has it in their plans to release any "patch" for this game. Only method of optimization I see possible is significantly lowering physics and calculations being done so that the game is ultimately, stupider, and therefore, takes less of a toll on the CPU. They released the requirements and have them pretty engraved, so I doubt they will be dumbing down the game. Current plans and released of patches only fix certain bugs, and do not address any major performance issues. It's also hard to see how video card drivers will help significantly besides removing graphical errors (which have in fact helped a bit), since the major calculations are the problem and the responsibility of the CPU.

One comment on this video:
"i have core 2 quad 4x 2,33 4gb kingston ddr2 800 mhz geforce 9600gt 1gb 700/2000 game on any setings have small lags ? i play on max setings and this lags as the same as high or medium"
Notice how he states, regardless of graphical quality (and resolution), the frame rate doesn't differ, telling us that a simple 9600GT is doing it's job, and the CPU is bottlenecking the system. The actual video however, is running a single 8800GT (with failed SLI), which is bottlenecking the ultra-fast i7 (CPU usage in first test only averaged 38%). If a driver came out from NVIDIA enabling SLI in this game, that would greatly help GPUs keep up with faster CPUs, however, the people with single cards (which there are many of), are still in square one.
In the following video, while there are no benchmarks, you can see how an i7 CPU was well matched with a 4870x2 (here Crossfire is built in, so no need for an dual-gpu fix), therefore bottlenecking was kept to a minimum, and gameplay speed rather enjoyable:

The SLI ready .84 drivers have been RE-released and .84 is suggested for any GTA IV PC users. Patch is in the works, due any day now.

No patch for Crysis ever came out, the components of the game itself was just so demanding that there really wasn't a "fix" possible. I see GTA4 being the same way, there's a lot of AI in the game so the everything is really up to NVIDIA to figure out. Lets hope whatever patch they come out with for GTA4 actually fixes the big problems, by fixing the smaller ones.

I have been corrected by another member of the forums that the SLI drivers that have been re-released are not, in fact, useful to SLI users. I have no need for understanding but make sure to do a quick search beforehand to see the issue with the latest release.

No, I believe the SLI update was set for desktop cards only?
overclock P9500? (GTAIV help too?)
