I was wondering if it is possible with this chipset and if it is. Is it a good idea or will there be some heat problems

Overclocking is definately possible but not really recommended. It puts stress on the cooling system & might affect other components since they are pretty close by. I would only overclock to benchmark it but wouldn't let it run for longer period of time.

Clockgen is available for the chipset used in the r3000(nvidia Nforce3)...

Hmm..I don't see why you would want to overclock that CPU - it's already very powerful!

But, if you are, be VERY VERY careful!!! Go in small increments. I'd recommend getting a cooling pad to take care of the excess heat.

Actually, I think I remember reading somewhere that the Athlon 64 multiplier can be lowered but not raised. Apparently, the only version of the Athlon 64 that can be overclocked is the FX series.

The FX is the only AMD processor that the Front Side Bus can be changed on to be exact. You can overclock the clockspeed of any AMD64. ;)

FSB can be changed on all A64, it's referred to HTT (Hyper Transport).

And all A64 have access to multiplier LOWER than default. (ie if you have a 2Ghz, ur default is 10X, you can use 9.5, 9, 8.5 etc) On the FX, you can select ANY multiplier, ie a 2Ghz FX has 10x default, but you can use 11x, 12x, etc.

So with FX, you can do multiplier overclocker on top on HTT overclocking as the A64 do. (Sempron works the same principal as A64)
