    hello folks.

I have a samsung series 3 that i am very happy about, i will soon upgrade to SSD and 8gb of ram and will make this machine a little devil.

The only problem i really have is the lack of 3.0 USB port. I use external HDDs to backup my data and sometimes i find myself postponing my backup because it just takes too long. Note that i don't leave my HDD connected all the time, i just connect when i backup or need a particular file.

Is there any solution or am I doomed with USB 2.0? I don't have an express card slot either so that's a no go. I have seen a USB 3.0 to HDMI but not the other way around.

Does such an adapter exists? is it possible to use the HDMI port for just this purpose? If no, then do you guys have any other suggestion to solve this problem? Can you combine two USB ports throughput?

Nope, unless you make your custom driver which generates graphics patterns which corresponds to usb3 signals.

Your best bet is a USB 3.0 expresscard. The other options that you have suggested are not feasible. Not sure if there are things that you haven't suggested because I'm pretty groggy right now, but I'm sure other people will chime in (or if anything hits me, I'll reply).

Only solution then is to find a USB 3.0 mPCIe card where it might work in the wifi card slot. You'd then use USB wifi instead. Not a neat solution as your USB 3.0 port would run from the underside of your system. Suggest sell up and get a Ivy Bridge notebook with native USB 3.0.

weird....that sounds like a pain :) You could just get one of those exspenive fancy wifi external drives. Or use a network storage.
