    hey,

my dell laptop ended its journey but left some unaswered question after him.

i locked my hdd from the dell bios. its not bios locked but something internal.
since my old dell laptop motherboard is broken, i cant even get into bios to unlock and remove the password protection. is there anything i can do to unlock that harddrive?

its a toshiba hdd, just tell me if you need any closer info

edit: i know its locked because it doesnt access any data, when i try to read it with lets say testdisk or gparted in linux, its not listed.

Proof of ownership would be nice. Like original invoice showing who purchased the system. Contact authorized service point. They will help you, if anyone can.

(In other words: in this forum you do not discuss bypassing security measures, simple as that).

Is it shown in bios? What if the drive is simply broken.

Send it back to the manufacturer along with evidence of your purchase. They'll unlock it for you.

You should be able to put the password in from any other computer and it should boot. Might want to try a desktop and a laptop in case the laptop BIOS is too stupid to support standard drive passwords.

Other than that there is not much you can do.

Please do not cross-post in the future, as it is poor forum etiquette and against NBR's forum rules. Your other thread has been merged with this one. Also, as mentioned earlier, your best bet is to talk to the OEM, Dell. They will unlock the hard drive for you.

    well thanks for the replies

edit: i have tried to put it into another pc, laptop. tried to boot from it, didnt ask me to enter any password. i think that the gui (the part where i enter my pass) is stored in bios. no data were loaded

Oh if you have pirated software or something dodgy on your computer, sending it back to the manufacturer is asking a free ticket to prison/receiving a fine. :p

I would take it to the manufacturer in person showing proof of purchase and wait for the fix. Don't post it or have a retailer post it for you. Don't let the laptop out of your sight for too long or the technician will have a peep lol.

    once again.

this thread is about the hdd NOT the laptop.
i have some lets say "software that can be used after trial period" but also some documents which i would like to gain back. i will look for some other methods of accessing it in which case if i dont success ill end up going to some specialized shop

edit: maybe if i directly connect it through sata, not just usb hdd reader

    [SOLVED]
I have attached it through the SATA interface and it asked me to enter password, not the problem is to disable the password... That is possible only on the laptop which it was set on? I just copy the files through linux distro.

    thanks for replies
