I'm interested in upgrading my laptop's memory. I know it supports up to pc-5300, according to crucial.com, so i'm looking to get that. I'm just not sure how I should buy it in terms of memory size.

Should I get 2x2GB, and if so, where?

It comes with 1x1GB, but the 1GB it comes with is pc-4300 so i want to replace that with a 5300.

Here's the thing though. Can I get 2 standalone 1GB memory sticks? Or will I need to get a paired kit to get the advantage from dual-channel memory? Someone please help because i'm new to memory upgrades and am still trying to understand the finer points of it.

You don't have to get a "kit" in order for the ram to work correctly.

Any 2 1gb pc5300 sticks paired together will run at full speed, dual channel, all the works exactly as those "kits". Doesn't matter what brand, just that the speeds are the same.

Thanks man. Can I get someone else or a few more people to let me know what they think? I'm new here, so I'm not sure who knows what's what yet.
