so, whats so good about it?
would you assume that it will be expensive when it comes out?
-
well all new stuff is expensive but have you read the earlier reports?
http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/2007/03/29/intel_penryn_nehalem_and_the_future/1 -
45 Nanometer shrink, more L2, just faster overall. Pretty much the standard "new thing".
They'll probably be priced like the P Meroms when they were new. -
More battery life, faster, less heat.
-
sounds similar to the new solid state drives xD.
more battery life, faster, less heat, lighter, and expensive. -
penryn will be slighty better than core 2 duo but, what will be interesting is Nehalem as, it will be completely different. They are forgetting about northbridge (front side bus) and are going with CSI (Common System Interface) which should mean alot less energy loss... Apart from that DDR3 memory should be out around then and USB 3.0 so..... alot to wait for
-
woah~
what the heck?
USB 3.0 and DDR3?
well i just looked up USB 3.0 and i guess its about 10 times faster.
and i have no idea what the difference is between DDR, DDR2, and DDR3 apart from that fact that DDR3 is probably better. -
i am just looking forward to the lesser heat
-
Like people said, penryn is just a small update to the current core 2 cpu (mainly die shrink and some minor improvements)
But nehalem is the next cpu build from the ground up with a whole new architecture, thus that is the one to look forward to. -
oh. that sounds nice.
probably expensive too haha.
do you know when these will be in notebooks? -
I heard nahelm systems will be 40% smaller.
-
Penryn will be one hell of an OC'er. It'll be smaller, faster, cooler. Will likely be Socket P, like the Santa rosa meroms.
But I'm also looking forward to Nehalem. -
Penryn is going to be drop-in compatible with Santa Rosa (Socket P), with a BIOS update. Penryn is going to also be the basis for the next generation Montevina platform, though that will feature a new socket type.
However, Nehalem is going to be the really awesome chip. Thats when I am going to purchase my next desktop....CSI and the biggest revision in chip design since Pentium Pro all the way back in 1995. -
Here is a link that is quite good

ahhh .... i just realized that if intel is dropping northbridge and going for CSI does that mean there will be no memory so no DDR3...... or have i completly missed the point???
-
It will have an on-die memory controller. CSI is Intel's equivalent to AMD's Hyper transport. Only faster. MUCH FASTER.
-
so..... does that mean no ddr2/3 ..????
-
You confuse me. Why wouldn't it be ddr2/3?
-
You're completely missing the point. Just cuz they get rid of the FSB doesn't mean that the system will no longer need RAM.
What their changing is the way the CPU talks with the RAM, instead of slow ass FSB thru the northbridge, the CPU will now have an on-die memory controller like AMDs. But the RAM is still there. -
but the nehalem will be coming in the 2009, that willl be 2 years from now..
-
It's release will be in Q2 of 2008, so yes it's a while from now.

aw screw.
ill just get C2D and wait until my 2nd/3rd year in college for one of those. -
so will there be a nehelm notebook in the mid of 2008?
