im kinda new to all of this and i see a lot on here that people say to avoid the pentium cpu, my question is why? i know the core 2 duo is better but is the pentium dual core bad or just a lower one than the C2D?

Don't listen to most people. Modern day Pentium Dual Cores(you'd have to give us which model so we can assess) are based on Core 2 architecture and are just gimped Core 2 Duos so they perform fine. For most people, a Pentium 4 was enough for their needs so unless you have particularly CPU intensive uses for your computer, a Pentium Dual Core will be fine for you :)

Well depending on your uses that might or might not be an adequate CPU. If you're only going to use the machine for internet, music, video, office and the like, it's overkill already.

If you're considering a purchase, fill out the FAQ as there are many other aspects other than the CPU that need to be taken into account.

Yeah if you're looking for purchase advice, there's more than the CPU to look at so maybe you should fill out a FAQ and post in the "What Notebook Should I Buy?" section.

But anyways, all your uses will work on a Pentium. Some might be slower than on a C2D(ex: very large and complex Photoshop files might be a bit slower or grainy when zooming/unzooming, but I get that even on a 2.8GHz Core 2 Duo), but they'll all work properly for the most part.
