hey i was plannin to buy the hp dv5000t or dell inspiron 6400
they both have similar config... so i cant make my mind up ... can ya help me out in which i should buy?
now im facing another problem the hp out here (india) is available only in the 1.66ghz variant , so i wanted to know that would there be much of a diff between a 1.66ghz and a 1.83ghz dual core processor? practical speakin and not theoritically...?
Ill be basically using the notebook for basic use like surfin the net, listenin to music, uploadin my photos, dvds, gaming too though at present im juss a cs and half life fan... so i dunno if i would venture into more demandin games ...
at present im using a 1.6ghz p4 , which seems really slow to me now ... and i wanna upgrade to somethin that i could use for some years primarily as a desktop replacement , but i dont wanna chcek out anythin else too , im head bound on gettin anyone of theses...
i would later on buy the ibook intel version , coz from the rumors hittin out here , its seems to be a really good piece
    anywayz thanz for ya help

the performance increase to 1.83 is fairly negligible unless you are doing something that is time-consuming and intensive like video encoding. if you want to boost your performance, upgrade ram and hd speed before cpu. also, the 1.66 ghz core duo is not the same speed as a 1.66 p4. check lowlymarine's guide on the what should i buy forum to get a better understanding of this. but why would you buy the hp/dell now, if you are just going to replace it? the macbook pro with the core duo is out almost everywhere else, so if it isn't in india, it should be coming soon. why not just wait a little to buy the macbook pro?

The 1.66GHz should be sufficient. Its the amount of RAM and dedicated graphics that contribute more significantly to performance.

Like they said. Such a small upgrade will not yield any noticeable performance increase. You usually need to upgrade several model steps to notice a difference.

Even on encoding projects, the increase would be small.

I'm not too knowledgeable in this subject but didnt someone say on these boards that the 1.83 had a good performance increase for the price diff?

well, the 1.83 probably has the best performance/price ratio.
