    please help error 10 60gb external hard drive

    i have a code 10 on my device manager for my external 60gb hard drive it is only about a month old it worked fine but now it does'nt i just get (!) in a yellow triangle ive tryed updated my usb controllers and my device and it just says that thay are all up to date. the external hard drive is a plug and play hi speed portable drive 2.5 when i plug it in the usb it is making a clicking noise which i dont think it did before im on vista basic. can anyone help plz???????

    The procedures are for XP but you will know what to do....

    thanks i went through the steps of uninstalling the devices under the universal serial bus controllers and restarted the laptop and it still comes up the same code 10 in mass storage device.

    When u restarted did it reinstall the controllers that u uninstalled from Device Manager? If u go back in Device Manager they should re-appear. Did this occur?
