pls recommend a hdd which is > 500Gb w/ low power consumption and good performance.
i just tried Samsung HM640JJ 640GB 7200rpm, found my laptop battery discharging time is decreased from 3 hrs to 2hrs.... too much!!!![]()

i doubt a hardrive can change that much power loss. There has to be something else going on. Though i would recommend an SSD or try WD one. They have some special drive that is 7200rpm but uses the same amount of power as a 5400rpm. Though i have forgot the name of the drive.

thanks,
but it happens, comparing with the previous hdd installed (WD5000bevt), samsung hm640jj drain my battery much faster.....
for a laptop, battery discharging time is also very important because i need carry it outside............. -
Absolutely no way that a HDD has that much impact on battery life....

update,
after using Samsung HM640JJ for 10days, i took it out from my notebook, and put back WD5000bevt...everything go back normal.
i am considering either return the Samsung HM640JJ, or put it in enclosure, or buy another one, etc, WD5000bekt, 7k500.... -
hi drifting....
thanks for sharing you experiences.... m also keen on the wd black or the hitachi 7k500....
would love to hear your feedback on how it went with either one that you purchase...
do post back here so that i and others could learn from your experience...
cheers... -
did the OP even consider, for a second, that he might have had a bad drive?
-
And how did he measure his battery life?
-
i'm keen on 7200 rpm and 640 gb is clearly much more than the 500gb but looking at op going from 3 hrs to 2 hrs...
losing 1 hr scared me..... -
-
it was in reference to op's samsung 7200rpm 640 gb...
i wonder if scorpio black and 75k00 will aslo reduce battery life by 1 hr ....??? -
tilleroftheearth Wisdom listens quietly...
If you lose an hour of battery power with the 7K500 (versus whatever HDD you have right now) then it is a software/driver issue - not the hard drive that is affecting the battery run time that much.
-
the op lost 1 hr with the samsung 640gb 7200 rpm.... wht could be the reason...?!?
-
1. his way of measuring is incorrect
2. he got a bad drive
otherwise there is no way that drive can reduce battery life by 33%.
pls recommend a hdd w/ good power consumption and performance, thanks
