So I am wondering if i can upgrade the processor in my MSI u230 light to a duel core. I looking to see if anyone can confirm if it is soldered to the MB or not and that it is an S1 socket type.

    Thanks.

the MV-40 is a BGA processor, like the Atom, thus it is soldered directly to the board.

kosti is correct, the Athlon Neo series are BGA soldered onto the motherboard. To upgrade it is to change out the motherboard or if you feel adventurous you could try desolder the CPU and try soldered on another CPU..

Soldering is out :( I'm going to go on limb here and guess there is no "laptop motherboard upgrade e-store" either, correct?

Afraid not. Replacement motherboards are sold by some stores (mostly online), but you'll have to know what you're looking for.
