Hello, Im new to the forums and basically an average person as far as computer knowledge goes for now. I was wondering, is it possible to change the processors in notebooks? Im asking because Im planning on buying a notebook this summer before i go back to college and Im concerned about the 64-bit vs. dual core processor subject. Should i get a notebook with the AMD turion 64 x2 when it comes out soon? should i just get the intel duo core for now? or should i wait for the intel merom which might be a long time? sorry if this has been addressed before, but any help would be appreciated!![]()

Not always, you should ask the notebook's manufacturer whether it is possible or not to uograde the processor. Some notebook brands are processor-upgradeable, especially if you buy boutique rigs.

The manufacturer will tell you it isn't upgradable. In practice it usually is, within BIOS and socket limitations. Whether or not it's a good idea depends on how much you have to disassemble the notebook to get to the CPU socket. HP is good about posting service guides so you'll get a very good idea reading those.
Turion X2 launched today.
