Basically when I went on and click troubleshoot "Display Aero desktop Effects" my laptop displayed the blue screen of death(BSOD) and the laptop turned off itself, so I had to press the power button to turn it on.
I had found out the problem which caused it which was the anti-virus software activating when the troubleshoot was scanning the laptop so I disabled it for a short time and it finally worked when I clicked "Display Aero Desktop Effects",
My question is:Could pressing the power button on when the laptop has just switched off damage the laptop? (Not sure if this is called a cold-boot or hard boot) or Pressing the power button (Hard shutdown) damage the laptop? I'm a bit worried

Which AntiVirus are you using?
Any AV that interferes with regular Windows operations in the manner you described shouldn't be really given a free reign.
There are several Free options to choose from that are just as good as paid ones (in case you use a Paid AV) in terms of system protection that won't interfere with regular system operations, such as:
1. MSE (Microsoft Security Essentials)
2. Avira Free
3. Avast Free
As for cold pressing the power button after the laptop already switched off... I don't think I understand the question here because pressing the power button once the laptop has been turned off would turn it back on again.
But if you are asking if pressing the power button while the computer is still active in order to initiate a cold-shutdown will damage the laptop... I don't think so (at least there shouldn't be any issues, and I can tell you I hadn't experienced any problems when I did it several times with no other option at my disposal). -
^^^ Exactly - the question is ambiguous. Sometimes you have no choice but to press the power switch in order to shutdown. One thing I do on the rare occasion this happens (a total lockup) is to run windows error checking ASAP (before windows loads; which is probably overkill). Powerbutton action in advanced settings can also be set to do a proper shutdown, I always use this setting.

A hard shut down won't do anything hardware wise, unless there is something out there I don't know of.
Now if you have an updater, installer, etc running during a hard shut down, that could possibly mess up that program. Although, if you BSODed, then windows already got messed up during that run time, so there isn't much to loose at that point.
