im looking to build something like the gateway p-6831FX. i like it because it has 8800 go gts graphics w/ 512 mb gddr3 and it can support 4gb 800 mhz laptop memory given a 64-bit os. it also has a very well upgradeable socket P which id like to put a T9300.

my question is: Are there any barebones out there that support this kind of setup (i think essentially the 965 chipset)? Or, am I stuck buying the laptop and then buying an extra T9300 and better ram to upgrade?

You won't, or will be hell bent to find a computer that has barebones AND the 8800GTS card (if that is even being sold) you should just buy the processor and RAM.

SSDs are faster but hold less space than normal harddrives and they're thinner (the SSDs are).

Your best bet is to buy this laptop and put in the parts you want. You will not find it barebones. For the price $1300, you can pull the parts out that you don't want, Ebay them, then buy the ones you do want.

There have been laptops with the 965 chipset for about 6 months now. They don't support Penryn, yet.

Good idea, Wu Jen, but will that make him a "manufacturer?" [IMG]
