    HI FOLKS

    I am using Acer aspire 5920, intel core 2 duo processor t5450
    2 gb ram
    160 gb hdd
    os xp sp3

    this dvd was working fine till six month back but for last six month nor it is writing any cd or dvd and neither reads all the cd's.dvd are completely not read by this and this only reads official cd's not self written.
    i try to update the drivers but it shows no updates are available.
    can anyone help?

    Umm, why would you try updating your drivers? Windows by default will support just about any optical drive, AFAIK.

    Do DVD's spin up while in the drive or not?

    whenever i try to run a dvd it doesn't spin at all but it make some noise and some tik tik noise.whenever i try to burn a cd it says that their is no cd.whenever i try to open a cd written by the same writer it again make some tik tik noise.but whenever i use ubuntu installation original cd or any other original cd firstly it make same noise but after 4 or 5 minutes it read them very well.

    I had an issue with my DVD RW recently were it would not recognize a DVD. I was unable to read or right. The problem was rectified after deleting the upperLimit and lowerLimit values in the registry for the DVD.

    Doesn't know if this would solve your problem.
