I belong to a club and we have a dv 2000t and 2000z we also have the dv5000t and dv 5000z. One of our members has a obd scan tool that gets hooked up to the usb port on the laptop and then to the connection in the car. The intel notebooks 5000t and the 2000t do not see the device when pluged into the usb port. the amd processors 2000z and 5000z work perfect. I have called hp support and even talked to higher ups in Calif. with no help other then it will not work with intel processors. I called the mfg. and was told the Scan tool takes 100 miliamps. The web cam takes up to 500miliamps. I believe intel and there concern about battery life has something to do with it. On the amd models the usb controllers are not configered the same as the intel models Any help here why the usb ports on the intel models not putting out the miliamps necessary to run the device

A USB port can supply up too 300 milliamps, so there should not be a power issue. Try plugging them into a different USB port on the Intel notebooks if you haven't already; also, if that does not work then change the power settings and see if that does anything:
Control Panel > Power Options > Set to "Portable/Laptop".

And finally, reinstall the chipset drivers. They should be either on the driver CD that came with your notebook, or you can download them off of Intel's website.
