i dont know too much about processor cache, but my question is will a t9300 with 6mb of l2 cache run games alot better than a t8300 with 3mb of l2 cache? basically is the cache really important in gaming or mainly in multitasking? thank you

the processor most likely won't affect gaming at all, assuming you have at least 2.0 ghz dual core, since even with an 8800M GTX your video card will still be the bottleneck.

You should get confirmation on this since but I'm pretty sure.

Cache isn't that important at all.

Games depend on the GPU not CPU.

Yes, the amount of speed or cashe doesnt affect 99% of games. It all matters on the GPU.

No only if DeLL offers that same model with better card and they don't. You would have to get one designed for DeLL whether from them or off Ebay. They have a proprietary connector. And the T8300 is a fine choice no matter what you use your notebook for.

no, you will not be able to upgrade your video card, but you will be able to download and install newer nvidia graphics drivers. I would look at laptopvideo2go's website, to find the newest drivers for the 8600GT.

im ordering an xps m1530 next week and I also had the same dilemna...I asked my computer teacher and he said that the cache, being the buffer of the processor, does play a role in processing..if it is larger he said that it may not have a significant effect but there surely will be an effect on processing..I chose to believe him because I know for sure that the cache is a buffer and the larger the buffer is, the more it ameliorates system performance..the t9300 with 4gb ram comes to £930 and my limit is £870..I have discussed with a c.s.r and she said that she could give me a discount..I told her how I was impressed and excited about the xps m1530...

There is no games that could stuff 6 meg cache with instructions.

CPU cache does have some importance in gaming, though it's not as drastic as your video card.

Taken from X-bit labs (comparing an E6850 and E1200 at the same clock speed)

Not as drastic? According to those numbers it is pretty drastic. Of course, that is a bad comparison, since you are comparing a E6850 desktop proc to a Celery. Anyone have a comparison between procs in the same family with different cache sizes?

It's like an E2160 but slimmed down a bit.

I looked at other benches (not mobile CPU's) and the differences were like 1-10% depending on the application.

But it DOES have an impact, just not a drastic difference. ;)

Now mikes is using 512KB vs 2MB so not really fair 1 to 4. The CPU's in question are 1 to 2.

Here is the actual two CPU's in question from Anandtech. But also remember if this is a L2 question the T9300 also has 4% more clocks so that is a part of the difference not just L2.

This has the same clock speed just different L2 and the ratio is the same 1 to 2, so a good representation. Not such a big difference in my opinion and not worth the money they want to charge.
