So I've got this laptop here but surprised that it appears that the q9000 does not drop to 800MHz at idle like the P-series can. Am I missing something or does this cpu not get below 1.6GHz at idle?
While the quad is nice, it would be more beneficial to me to have a higher clocked dual core if the duals all get the slfm state. How hard do you guys think it would be to get someone to do a trade for a higher frequency P-series for this quad?
Lastly, does anyone have idle numbers for a typical dual and quad cpu at, say, .9v or 1v? While there's more to it then the cpu, I'm a little surprised that the G51GX consumes 4 more watts of power at idle than the G50VT. With the gpu's and cpu's undervolted/clocked to similar frequencies between the two systems (minus the slfm discrepancy) and the g51 having another .75W idle due to the second hard drive, I would expect a little less power consumption that what it gives me. This is a difference of about 4.25 hours of battery life versus 3.5 hours when using the same 9 cell battery.

The Core 2 Quad mobile CPUs do not have Super LFM. That and having 4 cores probably explains the discrepancy from Core 2 Duo mobile CPUs for idle power.

Well I would assume the quad would consume more but I don't understand they they wouldn't offer a 3x multiplier. I may swap it out with my p7450 just to see how it changes. Either way, I'd prefer a p9700 instead to hold me over for another 12-18 months.

Interesting note - after messing with it some more today, it appears that the bluetooth may have been stuck on or something. The q9000, 2 7200rpm hdd's, 260m at 200/400/120, wireless on/off and bluetooth on/off (it didn't really change the draw at idle), and minimal screen brightness shows a system current draw of just over 16 Watts. Gigabit plugged in and it's about 16.8W average. My G50Vt idled at 800Mhz/powermizer 9800m at stock/1 hard drive, screen down at just over 17W.
Doesn't make much sense but I won't complain. This is somewhere around 3.5-4 hours on a 9 cell battery of useful web surfing from my past experience. 100% idle with hard drives on was showing 4 hours, 45 minutes at the 16W draw.
So, anyone have quad versus dual core (45W/25W) idle information or did no one ever really care? I would think that on a gaming laptop, a p9700 and Intel ssd's only could approach 5 hours of light web surfing or word processing on the 70 watt hour battery.
q9000 power states - no slfm?
