I have read rumors that a quad core Intel/AMD processor would be released late 2007, early 2008. I have been thinking of getting a new laptop soon, but if I did I would be getting a quad core desktop as well. If the quad cores are coming out in the next year I think I will just wait and get a laptop only. Does anyone have any more information on the processor: release date, pricing, anything?

    Thanks

If and when they come out (I have not seen these rumors) expect a huge price.

I mean for the best quad core right now for a desktop you're gonna spend $900+

Nope. There is no solid info on Quad Core notebooks.

Intel's Gilo processor MAY be a Quad Core, but there is still no proof (I feel it's going to be Dual core). It will be out sometime in the beginning of next year, I think.

Otherwise, there is no other info.

FYI, NBR just ran an article about a new desktop replacement on the first page. It supposed to come with the Quad Core X6800 and powerful graphics.

This is what night_2004 is talking about:

You won't need a heater if you have that thing running in the winter.

Actually it only accepts dual-core processors as far as I know; the quad-core Core 2 Duo has significantly higher power requirements.

Remember, the X6800 is the dual-core Core 2 Extreme, and the QX6700 is the quad-core. ;)
