I'm looking at a Sager NP8278 laptop and trying to decide on graphics card to do video editing etc. with adobe cs5...mostly actual video and low-end graphics, not high end graphics. Is the quadro K3100M (4GB) worth $350 more than the GTX 870 (6GB) for this purpose? It won't be used for gaming. Thanks!

It probably is... I personally would get the AMD Raedon card as even though its a gaming card, its much better than NVIDIA cards for all this stuff...

OP is asking about a GeForce vs. a Quadro. Where were Radeons mentioned in this thread?

No he needs an Nvidia GPU because of CUDA acceleration in Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.

@OP get the 870M, way faster and almost twice as many CUDA cores as the K3100M.

Is the CUDA acceleration also part of CS6 if I upgrade? Someone told me that the quadro was important because of higher color accuracy and fewer rendering artifacts. Would you consider these concerns negligible given my purposes? I would certainly like to go with the faster 870 if I am unlikely to notice the rendering accuracy differences.

CUDA is dead in CS6 in almost all the apps they have moved to OpenCL/GL in where the Gforce series are HORRID. if you plan to go to CS6 go with the quadro. if this is for work also go for the quadro to avoid artifacting and weird issues with the gaming drivers in pro applications
